Juventus defeated SPAL 2-0 in its latest Seria A match with the help of goals from Miralem Pjanic and CR7. See below for our player ratings from the match.
Juve dominated the proceedings today. According to ClubJuve’s Fan Pulse, many fans thought this was our most impressive performance this season, albeit against a weaker opponent that was glad to sit back and defend. I personally think that we showed our strength in being able to roll with the punches and get the results in spite of injuries and other personnel changes. I agree that our football is more presentable in comparison to what we witnessed for much of last year. However, I believe our peak is still far away from where we stand today. For one, our play is not very dynamic and energetic yet, which could cause us problems against high pressing sides. Some of this is likely a matter of conditioning, and probably some a matter of learning a new system. In terms of goals, we are ending many matches feeling like we could have scored 3 or 4 or 5 goals instead of actually scoring as many. Hopefully, this will improve as our attacking gets more incisive and less static.
– 8 and above: Excellent
– 6: Meets expectations
– Below 5: Pretty bad
Buffon (6.5): Was a solid presence at the back in spite of not having to deal with much attacking threat
Matuidi (7.5): Played as a full back after a very long time and largely did a fantastic job, both keeping the opponents in check and driving up the field
De Ligt (7): His calmest performance so far. Showed good composure under pressure and was rarely troubled.
Bonucci (7.5): Continues his string of strong performances and was good passing the ball out in addition to his defensive duties.
Cuadrado (7): Decent performance with some good crosses and not much trouble defensively
Rabiot (6): Still finding his feet as he gets more playing time. Looked slightly better than the previous match against Brescia, and his tactical play and positioning were impressive in particular.
Pjanic (8): Took his goal really well and fulfilled his playmaking duties brilliantly. Seems to be improving with more playing time this season and, hopefully, the upward trajectory will continue
Khedira (6.5): Not an energetic performance by any means but got into good positions as usual and was a strong threat to the SPAL defence
Can (6): Did not make much of an impact on the proceedings but did not do much wrong either despite looking rusty as should be expected
Ramsey (8): A livewire in attack. Juventus’ highest player up the field at points and made a menace of himself.
Bernardeschi (6): Looked a little off pace in the half hour or so he was on the pitch
Ronaldo (7.5): Scored a goal and could have had one or more additional ones if not for some great goalkeeping
Dybala (7): Looked strong in possession and had some decent shots on goal
